Energy and society

The early beginnings of sociology in Krakow reached the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries but the first Department of Sociology and Ethnography was establish in 1930.
The current, ongoing scholarly and didactic activities of the Institute of Sociology are the direct outcome of our institution's rich tradition and the diverse research interests of our academic staff. The Institute conducts a wealth of teaching and research pur-suits, thanks to which fact our department ranks in the top three nationwide among all university sociology programmes. As a leading sociology programme in Poland, our Institute has won certificates of accreditation. Academic institutions are awarded only upon verification that an institution fulfils numerous requirements and meets high standards.
